Here at SwarmOnline, we describe UX in the following way: emotion, intuition and connection the user feels when using a desktop or a mobile app. To put it simply, user experience is all about two things – the user and the experience. At SwarmOnline, we strive to create digital products that people will want to touch and engage with time and time again.
How do we delight users with great experience?
When it comes to user experience, delight can often be hard to define. A well designed UX is not only easy to understand, navigate and interact with. It must also be usable. We believe that delighting users means providing an experience that the end users want.
Usable and useful designs come from collaboration – with designers, developers, project owners and users. We bring everyone into our product design process which usually starts with a bootcamp session where we gather requirements and identify problems and challenges. We drill down to what the users really need, and why they need it. By walking in our users’ shoes we uncover their needs, behaviours, and aspirations. Quick sketches, produced as a result of user research, are transformed into mockups and then into a clickable, interactive prototype that feels like a real product but doesn’t require a lot of time to create.
With our prototype built, we can start collecting feedback from the users. Our experience shows that it’s best to show the prototype on the target device – this will give the users a chance to validate how the interactions feel. By presenting product concepts, without diving into the production process, we are able to reveal design problems early and revise the prototype accordingly. We believe that the most valuable results come from testing with no more than 5 users and running as many small tests as necessary.
Conducting user research and discovery sessions can have a massive impact on the success of your mobile app or website. Having users directly involved in the design process can save time and money and help create digital products that offer significantly better UX than ones that move from concept to production.
