As a technology business, SwarmOnline only survives if it innovates for clients. The company now has a burgeoning international reputation and a client list that includes E.ON, Scottish Power, Shell, Veripos, GlaxoSmithKline and Thales. It also works in partnership with Sencha, Vodafone and Amazon Web Services to turn great ideas into great scalable & secure products.
SwarmOnline’s apps provide practical solutions for businesses saving time and money. These include an app to help E.ON’s field engineers install smart meters across the UK; an app used by TFL engineers to help with the repairs process and to keep the London underground network moving and an app for Veripos to help pinpoint the exact location of divers working on oil rigs – in this case the app can save lives as well resources.
SWARM TIMELINE
HELLO WORLD
After 6 years of preparation, SwarmOnline comes to fruition as the company incorporates as SwarmOnline Ltd starting out in Andrew’s living room! With extensive knowledge of enterprise solutions and mobile application development, SwarmOnline was poised at the forefront of the Scottish tech industry.

THE TEAM GROWS
In 2015 we had yet more growth with the team expanding to 15 – we took on more projects, we took on more space at the Hub and even won some awards. 2015 also saw us starting work on our innovative connected home and energy products.
Our MD, Andrew Duncan, won Digital Professional of the year and we were nominated for Tech Company of the year in the Scottish Business Awards.

SWARM EXPANDS
2016 has been our biggest year yet – in January Swarm merged with Open Platform expanding our team to over 25 staff over Glasgow and Edinburgh. Our client base has grown too – so far we’ve taken on even more projects and more than doubled the floor space of our Glasgow headquarters with even more yet to come! In 2016 we continue to work on our connection home products and began working on our conference mobile application.
Our team in Edinburgh moved to a new office in the heart of the city and our MD, Andrew Duncan, won the Outstanding Contribution by a Young Business Leader award at the Glasgow Inspiring City Awards.

What’s in a year? Well, plenty if you move at the pace of Swarm as we enjoyed 12 months of success. It’s been a year of more…
More space – the great and good of the Scottish business and political scenes gathered for the official opening of our new Edinburgh office and we also expanded our Glasgow HQ. Drop in to see us at either office and enjoy a drink at our informal bar areas!
More people – our team of experts has grown. We attracted two new developers to help with our high tech, cutting edge projects and four new team members on the business development and operations side as we continue to grow.
More projects – 2017 brought the arrival of some huge projects for Swarm! This year we disrupted the financial services sector, developing a transformative app – CU Soar – for credit unions to allow them to compete better with traditional players in the sector. This has already brought in new clients and attracted significant interest, with many more now in the pipeline. CU Soar has created a buzz among credit unions in the UK.
More clients – we’re making an impact across different sectors of the business community and have started working with:
Castlight – Innovative FinTech company that provides real-time affordability and financial capability analysis.
Ontex – leading international company providing smart hygiene solutions for all generations.
IMS Evolve – Global business providing IoT solutions for cold chain.
Agile CIC – Social business providing digital support & training for community based activities.

Time to Soar…
As well as continuing to work with clients old and new, Swarm began to diversify.
Having identified a gap in the market for financial services software within the ethical finance sector Swarm began to design a modern banking platform for Credit Unions and other ethical finance organisations. During 2018 a plan was drawn up and Swarm spun out anew software product business, Soar. Our founder Andrew and some of the team left Swarm (moved to the other end of the room) to get Soar up and running quickly winning lots of attention in the Scottish Fintech space and has expanded to new offices.
