What is a web application?
A web application is, in effect, an advanced website. It’s a piece of software or tool that users access via the internet or a company intranet/extranet using only a web browser. Web applications provide further functionality than a website as they generally allow users to interact by making live changes or manipulating information stored directly in an enterprise level database.
Is this cloud computing?
Yes! And it’s a fantastic way to help you work more effectively and collaborate with others. There are many advantages to moving your systems to the cloud such as:
- Instant access to vast computing resources
- Easy to increase/decrease resources as demand changes
- No requirement to administer the hardware directly
- Low maintenance costs
- Almost always available (typically better than 99.99%)
- Accessible from anywhere with internet access
- Can be compatible with mobile phones, e.g. iPhone
- Reliability – no unexpected crashes or freezes
- Improves your green credentials
Why choose SwarmOnline for web development?
SwarmOnline have all the knowledge, tools and expertise to build very complex but extremely user friendly web applications. Whether it’s a basic customer database or a system to manage large parts of your business, we can consult with you from project planning through development, implementation, training and maintenance as your business develops.
Our Development Process
1) Application Planning & Specification
We work closely with you to understand your business and requirements. With this understanding we’ll write a project specification (aka System Requirement Specification) and run you through the costs and timescales for the project.
2) The geeky bits
Following the specification we get all geeky with your application! We build the databases, program the system, subject it to some serious testing and prepare the servers. We’ll be in touch regularly though with updates, questions and examples (we can turn off the geek speak if you want though).
Don’t worry if things change either, just contact us and we’ll see what we can do to work your requirements into the project.
3) Deploying & User Acceptance Testing
The system is built and it’s time to deploy. In this stage we’ll prepare your web application for final user acceptance testing and launch. If the system fails user acceptance testing we’ll re-visit the area to ensure it suits your requirements exactly!
4) Training
It’s time to ensure your users know what to do! If appropriate we will work with your users individually or in groups to offer support and training in using your new application.
5) Final Check & Sign-Off
We carry out a final check of the system and when you’re happy it’s application sign-off.
6) Launch!
Everyone has worked hard on your new application and we’ll work closely with you to ensure your launch goes smoothly.
7) Ongoing Support
We’ve come this far together and we’ll be here for you when you need support; whether it’s business support, application maintenance or upgrades.
