“Once upon a time there was a place where information was kept in places called “libraries” and was written on thin bits of tree. This was a terrible place where you had to trawl book after book looking for what you want…”
Books aren’t dead yet but can you imagine a time when you couldn’t settle an argument, quickly lookup the cinema times or just read the news without the phrase “Google it!” popping up? Search engines account for over 80% of a site’s new visitors and it is online suicide to ignore such a traffic source and hope that “if you build it, they will come”.
For this reason we want to get you to the top of that list so you’re the first name that appears when people Google for something relating to your business or services.
How will Google (and the others) find me?
To a certain degree Google will find your website even if you sit back and do nothing at all. Which is great but while you’re sipping a nice cold beer, your biggest competitor is optimising his site and pulling in lots of new visitors with bulging wallets. YOUR visitors!
There are various techniques we will employ to get your website to the top of the pile, including:
We will analyse your market and identify the key words and phrases that you should be targeting based on a host criteria, including search recurrence and website competition. We will then work with you to optimise your content to include as many of these words and phrases as possible so Google knows what you’re website is about.
It’s all about convincing Google that you’re a credible website on your chosen topic and that you’re the only website that should be at the top of that results page!
Search Engines don’t only read the same content that your visitors will, they also read hidden Meta Tags that provide it with extra information about the content of your site and who the target audience might be.
We will pack these tags with key words and phrases that help the search engines rank your website top!
Google uses a clever system of counting the number of links a website has pointing to it and uses this as an indicator of how popular and the level of quality content and services that website has. A link to your website counts as a ‘vote’ for your site, cast by the website the link resides on. These votes are weighted by the content of the linking website, meaning a website that is about the same topic as you will count as a stronger vote because it is a vote from people who know about the topic.
We will submit your site to numerous directories and liaise with other websites in your market and offer link exchanges to boost your ‘vote count’ so Google can’t ignore your site.
Is it really worth it?
Of course! Have a look at some stats compiled by our friends at Chitika…
The website that sits in the top spot of a Google search results page receives 34% of all traffic. Compare this with the fact that the 2nd to 5th placed websites only just surpass this percentage combined and you can see why boosting your ranking should be one of your top priorities.
Even the smallest increase of 1 place, taking you from 11th spot (on the second page of results) to 10th (on the first page) will give you a traffic increase of 143%. Worth spending a little time on!
Why do you only mention Google?
Although there are lots of Search Engines out there we tend to focus on Google for 2 reasons: it’s the biggest and it’s the best. If we focus on climbing up Google’s rankings then the rest will follow shortly after (or even before!).
At the time of writing Google accounted for over 70% of internet searches with Yahoo! languishing in 2nd place with only 14%. These figures speak for themselves and prove that Google is the first port of call for the majority of your potential visitors and so should be who we optimise for first.
